WOMEN EMPOWERMENT (Recycling)

The new name for this program is ADEPA CREATE, which translates to "Something Nice"; meaning something of value. TREE is working with local women in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region, Ghana. The women use Traditional weaving methods to make beautiful, color baskets, clothes hampers, fans and other products from organic natural grass, scrap cloth and natural dyes. The Bolgatanga area is famous for this craft they have been producing for over 100 years and the unique baskets are exported throughout the continent of Africa and the world. The baskets are eco-friendly, durable and have many uses.  TREE is also working with Akurugu Daboo Women's Group in rural Upper East Region, Ghana. This multi-talented group uses Traditional weaving methods as well to create custom baskets, bath mats, purses and just about anything you can think of, all with 100% recycled plastic!! The purified drinking water in Ghana is sold in plastic sachets that are polluting our environment and planet. There is an abundance of plastic (rubber) throughout Ghana, and The Akurugu Daboo women use these plastic water sachets and other plastic to create "Adepa" (something nice). TREE purchases the women's recycled products in bulk at a fair, whole sale price and then market the eco-friendly products locally and internationally online, helping to empower the women economically, sustaining other programs through TREE and keeping our communities and environment clean.
